The Brazen serpent by Tintoretto

As a street painter I worked directly on pavement, then i move to paper and later on
we move to work on  prepared canvas and making a Large scale copies of the old Masters.

I choose Tintoretto because i always felt very close to him and to his work. Once i heard that on the entrance to his studio was written: "draw like Michael angelo, paint like Leonardo da vinci"; so in my opinion he was one of the first frustrated painter, very aware of his time. and  still has a great faith and commitment.

250cm.X 340cm.
done on Israel and Europe streets in the 80th.

We Prepared the canvas using Red Venetian color; Industrial water base paint, mix with pimess. The pimsse make the surface rough to hold the pastel in. We prepared it in the open air, on Passeo de gracia avenues in Barcelona. Then, rolling it, flying back home to Tel Aviv Start Working and draw it inside.

The painting done on three large pieces of canvas attached  together.
useing crossaching drawing technique, using soft brushes and home made pastels; sometime, in particular ocasion i used the expensive 1 $ Rembrandt pastels.

First, grid and copy it with sepia pencil and then use some light Acrilic wash. The Venetian red background used as warm flesh skin tone. when some of the drawing done, and the background acrylic wash paint in, I went out on Dizingof street in Tel Aviv with the upper part of the painting and continue working on it on the street..

Then back to Europe keep working on the painting moving frome town to town,
 mainly in England,
The setup in England was just perfect. First, there was no competition. the most professional street painters preferred to stay on the other side of the canal, So we had the whole british island for us.
Thanks to M. Thatcher The setup of The  pedestrian english streets in the 80th was just perfect to us and to our paintings. No destruction by trafic and enough space to our 'way too big pictures'. most of the time we were the only attraction on the street, and the crowd was generous, curious, and had a lot of cash in his pockets..
